His Life For Mine
The C-130 returned from another mission
from war-torn Afghanistan
It was all over the television
to bring back a peace-keeping man.
They said during a patrol
he stepped on a land mine
In that moment it popped into my head
he gave his life for mine.
It was sad to see his casket
roll out of that big plane
They said he left his two kids
and his loving wife, Jane.
From that moment on
I could not concentrate
because I could not stop thinking of
that poor, brave man’s fate.
I wondered what would happen
if under that flag was me
if I would be forgotten
or if they wondered, that I died to keep them free.
The sacrifice that is given
to keep our flag soaring ever-high
is majorly contributed
by those who flight and those who die.
As we look in the future and the past
it is only right
that we fly the flag at half mast
to honour those who fight.
As I go to bed tonight
I ask my soul to keep
and that my feelings for that boy
are always so ever deep.

The Harvard
Looking out at the yellow bird
once flown by many
and also heard
the mighty roar
on yellow wings
they soared
higher and higher
until they became
a Canadian flyer
to be sent overseas
they still saw
the warm summer breeze
so as we see day come to an end
we welcome home
an old flying friend.

Flying
My favourite place to be
is up in the sky
there’s so many sights to see
when you go and fly.
When I step in that airplane
I strap into my seat
people call me insane
but the ground’s where I’d rather not have my feet.
When I’m there looking down
I see all my friends
and my hometown.
I’m gonna love it, till it ends.
Even if I die in my flight
I ask my family not to cry
because I found the light
when I began to fly.

The Summer Sky
When I see that plane fly by
I look and wonder
Why can’t I?
See life from my point of view
to see the swept skies
a scene seen by very few
and let the sunshine fill my eyes
with very distant memories
of those pilots so-ever wise
and how the windsock swung with the summer breeze
So I can catch my last glimpse
of that fading silhouette
I see in my eyes
a friend I’m glad I met.
