A Harvard or Tiger Moth ride makes a great anniversary, graduation or birthday gift. Contact Bob Trowell at (519) 425-1510 to reserve your spot.

July 30 and 31 were two very busy days for CHAA with eighteen new members over the two days. Seventeen of those new members had flights and the other will have a flight shortly. Welcome to all the new members as thirty-four people joined CHAA in July.
CHAA NAME BADGES – If anyone is interested I am still taking orders for CHAA name badges. These will help you to identify yourself as a CHAA member when at any of the shows and at our FLY DAYS. The cost is $15.00. If the badge is to be mailed add $1.25. I will be ordering the badges on August 11 for delivery by August 25. Either call (519-633-0053) or e-mail (

7. SERVICE CREW SIMPLY AMAZING -- George Wilson This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
As a pilot on the July 30th Fly Day, I feel I must compliment the service crew for their outstanding efforts. I arrived at 8:30 a.m. to find the Harvards out of the hangars with fluid levels checked and ready to go. Aircraft were moved competently and new crewmembers were organized and briefed prior to flight. Our planes were expertly marshaled on the ramp and taxiways. At 6:30 p.m., when the last crew ride was completed, every member of the service crew was still there to help wipe the planes down and tuck them away safely. The following members are to be congratulated for making the Fly Day one to remember: Shane Clayton, Dianna Clayton, Jared Smith, Shawn Wylie, John MacKenzie, Shawn Newman, Stacey McCue, John Brown, and a double thank you to anyone not listed.
Marion Bennell, Jane Belore and Debbie Wilson worked tirelessly behind the scenes, the Hollisters kept us watered and coffeed and Bruce Tapp filled the coffers selling merchandise on CHAA's behalf. Thanks also to Tom Kaufman for expert problem solving and decision making.
8. July 30 Flyday – C Ops O, Tom Kaufman This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
From an Ops standpoint, thank you all for your efforts on Saturday, July 30. It was a very busy, very long day and most importantly, very successful with (my unofficial count) 14 Harvard rides, most of which were .5's and 5 Moth rides (one of which was transition training) done at Tillsonburg, and 12 Harvard rides plus a flyover and a media ride done in Kincardine.
--To the volunteers booking the rides at Tillsonburg, many thanks for your patience with only one Harvard to work with for most of the day
--To the pilots at both venues, thank you for a day full of incident-free flying
--To the ground crew, thank you for orchestrating the "flow on ground"
--To the maintenance folks, thanks for dealing with the snag on the Moth so quickly
--To the Stores team, well done at Tillsonburg and in Kincardine
--To those of you I did not mention...thank you as well!
It is always good to see how a group of volunteers can pull off so much in one long, hot day!!! Here's to the next one...May we double the numbers!!! Hey, relax; we'll have more aircraft flying!!
9. CHAA THUNDERBIRDS RECOGNIZED – George Wilson This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
The following article appeared in the Tillsonburg News Wednesday June 8, 2011:
“The 2011 Keep Tillsonburg Beautiful Committee would like to thank the over 125 civic minded volunteers who planted trees, cleaned up the trails and Lake Lisgar to help keep Tillsonburg beautiful. Since the inception of this annual event in 2006, 1285 trees are planted and over 180 yards of garbage collected on Town of Tillsonburg properties.”
The article ended with a public thank you to the sponsors, with The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association heading the list!
Please consider offering a donation to this worthwhile project. $927.00 has been donated so far, to cover CHAA’s $2000 contribution to offset CO2 production by our Harvards. Robert Davison patches, received at the time of making a donation of $10 or more, are popping up on the sleeves of our service and maintenance crew and one pilot is reported to be displaying one on his left sleeve.
10. CHAA Website Updates:
Roy Venn ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) will be making every effort to keep the CHAA website calendar up-to-date. For this to happen, any events you are scheduling in CHAA’s name need to be forwarded to Roy as soon as you know about them. Anyone forwarding information must send it fully written out, using the wording they want to be read by our website users, as it will not be Roy’s responsibility to write your event information. Thank you for your cooperation with this venture, as we strive to use our website to keep our membership informed.

13. Shane Clayton wanted everyone to read of the July 26 flight of the Fairey Swordfish now owned by Vintage Wings of Canada in Gatineau. This aircraft was purchased by Bob Spence of Murkirk during the Ernie Simmons auction and was restored by Bob and his family. It was later sold to Vintage Wings where it underwent further restoration.
