HARVARD HAPPENINGS – NOVEMBER 2011

-------------------

REMEMBRANCE DAY -- Friday, November 11 at 11am

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing,

STOP and give thanks for the freedoms you enjoy

Wear Your Poppy Proudly
Lest We Forget

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

To our members who are Veterans, thank you…thank you so very much.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Flanders Fields -- Major John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

For The Fallen (excerpt) -- Laurence Binyon

They shall grow not old

as we who are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them

nor years condemn.

At the going down of the sun

and in the morning

We will remember them.

Membership Update – Marion Bennell This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

- Several new members have had rides in our Harvards; otherwise it has been a relatively quiet month for membership.

- Thanks to all those who have renewed.

- To those who have corrected their information, thank you so much.

- Thank you to the many members who have indicated they wish to receive the ROAR by e-mail.  Postage is a huge cost every year and by receiving the ROAR in this way you are helping CHAA immensely.

- Now is the time to begin thinking about Christmas gift-buyingA CHAA gift certificate is a great gift for that hard-to-buy-for person – maybe a membership to get them thinking about volunteering at CHAA or maybe a ride in either a Harvard or the Tiger Moth.  To discuss the cost, contact me (info above) or Bob Trowell ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PR and Crew Ride Report – Bob Trowell This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

-- It's been a great season for crew rides. Not counting Fly Days and rides done by pilots at away events, over $30,000 has been booked in rides this year, and there's still a few to go!

-- Positive comments have been received from many of our new members about the great experience of flying in the Harvards and Tiger Moth.

-- Inquiries are coming in already about flights in 2012.

-- Thanks to Tom Kaufman, Ed Soye and all the pilots for making it a great year for backseaters.

-- Tip-of-the-hat to all our members who work on the ramp helping with service and crew rides.

-- The ongoing support of Tourism Oxford and Jeff Tribe's articles in the Tillsonburg News played a large part in our successful season.

-- Radio spots will be my main focus again in 2012. The reach of radio and the great rates we get make it an ideal way to attract our audience.

-- Tour groups this year ranged from four to over twenty people and included girl guides, car and motorcycle clubs and seniors. While most tours were with local and regional groups, two small groups from England also paid us a visit. All were grateful and appreciative of CHAA's efforts to keep these great aircraft flying.

-- Looking forward to the 2012 season.

Thinking of all those CHAA members who are dealing with illness.  Please know you are in our thoughts and our prayers.

The Tillsonburg Airport is trying to set up a flying club called "the Tillsonburg Aviators".  A meeting to discuss the future of the Aviators is planned for Saturday, November 26th at 11:30 AM at the terminal building. A COPA guest speaker will give a short presentation on becoming a COPA Flight airport.  Anyone interested in joining the "Aviators" is welcome to attend.

Until next time, clear skies, safe flights and smooth landings!
