TILLSONBURG, ON – November 11, 2024 — A day after the 2024 Remembrance Day ceremonies, a 100-year-old Veteran Spitfire pilot will take to the skies in a Harvard, an aircraft he trained on 80 years ago.
Flying Officer Ken Raven, (Retired) was an RCAF Spitfire pilot conducting photo reconnaissance as he witnessed the final days of the air war over northwestern Europe in 1945.
Weather permitting, on Tuesday, November 12 at approximately 1:00 p.m., he will climb aboard one of the Harvards owned by the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association at Tillsonburg Regional Airport for another flight experience in an aircraft he cut his teeth on eight decades ago.
The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association is an all-volunteer organization with a mission to preserve, restore, maintain and display the Harvard and other aircraft associated with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the Royal Canadian Air Force. It owns eight Second World War era Harvards and a Yale aircraft. The association will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025.
