April 20, 2026: An iconic part of the K-W Surplus store along Victoria Street in Kitchener was removed Monday morning. The replica of a Second World War Spitfire that’s been perched on the rooftop since 1997 will makes its way to Tillsonburg where it will be part of a memorial garden at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport. Ray Whittemore recently sold the K-W Surplus business and donated the Spitfire replica to the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association, which is based at the Tillsonburg airport. The association says the replica will undergo necessary repairs, and when those are completed, repainted to resemble the colours flown by Royal Canadian Air Force Lt. Charley Fox during the war.
