Becoming a member of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association is easy. After reviewing the different types of annual memberships, you can purchase one that suits you best.
Membership fees contribute significantly to upkeeping CHAA’s operations, so we thank all our members gratefully for supporting our organization.
We are located at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport (CYTB), in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Canada.
The Tillsonburg Regional Airport is located directly on Highway 19 (Plank Road) at Airport Road, 16 kilometres south of Highway 401 and 7 kilometres north of the Town of Tillsonburg. Centrally located in Southwestern Ontario, the airport is easy to reach by road or by air. We are approximately 1.5 hours west of Toronto by car.
No. The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association is not a museum, with daily opening hours and admission. We work on and store our aircraft in a group of hangars at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport, so there is no main entrance.
We are open to the public year-round on:
- Tuesdays: 9am – 4pm / 0900 – 1600 hrs
- Saturdays: 9am – 4pm / 0900 – 1600 hrs
As a 100% volunteer-run organization, we strive to offer two days/week when you can always find us on site. Yet, often we have volunteers on site beyond these times. If you are in the neighbourhood and wish to pop by and see if someone is around to chat with and see what we’re up to, we welcome you any time.
We are always looking for more volunteers and welcome our members to become active with the Association. Volunteering is a great way to learn more about CHAA and make new friends while contributing to a worthy cause.
We have many areas where volunteers are always needed, such as working with the aircraft, service crew, event preparation, giving guided tours, fundraising, special projects and more. Aviation experience is not necessary. If you would like to become a volunteer, please let us know.
Subject to crew, weather, and maintenance restrictions we fly year-round, although our primary flying season is May to November (after our Remembrance Day flight). During the summer months you are almost guaranteed to see our aircraft flying every weekend, usually Saturdays, some Sundays, and occasionally throughout the week. In the winter months we fly as long as weather permits and our aircraft are not offline for their annual inspections.
Yes. All donations over $50 are tax deductible.
We offer Harvard conversion training to pilots that meet our minimum experience requirements (see below). Candidates for conversion training must complete the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association (CHAA) ground school, and then undergo conversion training with an Association Conversion Pilot. Upon successful completion of training, they will be added to the CHAA flight roster allowing them to fly CHAA Harvards in accordance with the conditions set forth in CHAA’s “Flight Operations Manual”.
Minimum qualifications to be considered for conversion training:
- Commercial pilot license SEL
- 250 hours total time
- 50 hours tailwheel time
- 10 hours complex aircraft time
Minimum qualifications for carrying passengers:
- Commercial pilot license SEL and Cat 1 medical
- 500 hours total time (200 hours PIC)
- 50 hours (PIC) tailwheel time
- 10 hours (PIC) complex aircraft time
CHAA pilots must also be CHAA members. In addition, there are annual flying roster and insurance fees.
For more information on how to become a CHAA pilot, reach out to us at info@harvards.com.
- Age: 12 years old and older
- Height: No restriction,
unless someone is NBA tall - Weight: less than 300 pounds
Not necessarily. Transport Canada regulates that every potential passenger must pass a 20-second egress test in order to go flying. This is done on-site, in the aircraft. Don’t worry, we’ll walk everyone through it, and if you are even a little fit and agile, you should pass no problem.
Harvards are 2-seater aircraft, therefore one seat for the pilot and one seat for a passenger.
You can purchase flights from 10 minutes* to one hour. The time you purchase is the amount of time you spend in the air. (*Note, 10-minute flights are normally only offered on Open House & Fly Days)
